PS: This problem occurred just before I installed the SSD, but thinking it would be an easy fix, and being in a rush, I just cloned the old drive to the new SSD.
#Photosweeper not for mac how to#
Can somebody show me how to get to those duplicate files and delete them, so I can free up the space on my computer? I have checked out this Stack Exchange article which describes the same problem I think: How can I repair missing referenced photos in Photos. I am used to the world of Windows where you just find the file and delete it. The export operation failed to create a file for the photo identified below: Example.jpeg Unknown Error (4) When I click Reveal in Finder, nothing happens. Finally, I wrote PhotoSweeper and they simply copy and pasted a basic answer that told me to do what I had already done. I then went to the iPhoto app and could not find the trash there either. So, I did more research and learned that the trash is actually to be found in the Photos app. PhotoSweeper for Mac finds identical and highly similar photos and marks them for deletion.

I went to the bottom of the screen to empty the trash but couldn't find the photos/videos there. I then used the same PhotoSweeper app to send them to the trash. I purchased it and sure enough the duplicate photos/videos were found-well over 100gb worth. In my research, I learned I could purchase PhotoSweeper, which would located all duplicates. I deleted some miscellaneous things and now I am currently at 28.86gb free. I researched online and found that somehow the new Photos app had duplicated all my pictures and videos. You can continue comparing them with other duplicate pictures, but the app will not allow you to remove the locked pictures. Suddenly the disk space was reduced to practically zero. PhotoSweeper alternatives are mainly Duplicate. Other great apps like PhotoSweeper are Powerphotos and Duplicate Photo Finder Plus. It's not free, so if you're looking for a free alternative, you could try VES - Image and Photo Compare. I have a mid-2012 Macbook Pro with a 500gb SSD. There are four alternatives to PhotoSweeper for Mac, Windows and Android. Where is the PhotoSweeper trash folder? I cannot find it in neither the Photos app nor the iPhoto app.
